TRAILS Set aside to protect a small section of the area's rich flora, the 54 ha Ramskop Nature Reserve lies at the meeting place of fynbos (heath) and sandveld vegetation. June to September, the peak flowering season, is the best time to explore it, and an annual flower show which is held here each spring attracts large numbers of visitors. A 7,5 ha cultivated area is fenced off and contains more than 200 indigenous species. The reserve is situated on the Clanwilliam Dam and offers magnificent views of the Cadarberg range to the east. Location: North-east of Cape Town Access: From Cape Town follow the N7 northward; turn onto the R364 and continue to Clanwilliam. The reserve lies south-west of the town and is well singposted. Accommodation: None within the reserve. Clanwilliam has a hotel and a camping and caravan site. Other facilities: Footpaths; a wild flower garden; tea-room open during the flower season. Open: Throughout the year. Opening time: 08h00 to 17h00.
